The church stood in the center of the image, like a fixed point, an unchanging landmark in the landscape. In front of it, the sea had receded, revealing the sand and the wreck of a small boat. Its dark, almost compact shape evoked a beached submarine, abandoned there at the mercy of time.

It was from this encounter that the title Vestige was born. The church and the shipwreck have nothing in common, except for this capacity to leave a trace. One through spirituality, community, human history inscribed in time. The other through use, navigation, gradual abandonment. Two very different ways of inscribing themselves in the landscape, but the same silent presence, resistant to the passage of time. Above, the sky bore the marks of another rhythm.
The contrails of airplanes crossed the sky, thin and ephemeral. They introduced a new temporality, that of technological evolution, of speed, of our contemporary way of inhabiting the world. They left no lasting trace, but a passage. A fleeting inscription.

This juxtaposition deeply affected me.
Long-term and short-term perspectives.
Anchoring and passage.
The vestige and the momentary trace.

I chose a high-contrast black and white to achieve this effect. To simplify the forms. So that the landscape, the wreck, the church, and the sky become almost motifs. On the border of abstraction. Not to distance myself from reality, but to get closer to the emotion that this scene evoked.

This image does not seek to tell a specific story.
She poses a silent question:
What, of our existences, truly remains?
